The basic auto insurance coverage required in Texas by state law is most commonly referred to as 25/50/25 coverage. Broken down, this coverage represents a minimum $25,000 bodily injury liability limit per injured person with a limit of $50,000 per accident along with a $25,000 minimum limit for property damage liability.
The law system in Texas uses a Tort system and an at-fault state, meaning that in an accident, if a person is found to be at fault for the accident, he and his insurance company is accountable for all of the damages. And while the national average for auto insurance premiums is $1,578, Texas’ average is only slightly lower at $1,561. For the year 2010, however, Texas has seen a decrease in rates.
